What should I expect in worship?
Currently, we are conducting worship over Zoom. When we resume in person worship, it will likely be similar to our previous worship service as described below:
The worship service at Community Covenant begins at 11:00 a.m. When you enter the sanctuary, you will be greeted and handed a hymnal and “bulletin” which contains the order of service and announcements from the activities of the church for that week. You are welcome to sit wherever you would like.
Most people tend to wear business casual attire, though dress ranges from casual to dresses and suits. Our worship music is a mix of traditional hymns and choruses, and modern praise music. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month. Those who believe in Jesus and seek to follow him are welcome to participate and those who wish to learn more about us are welcome as well. Worship is followed by a time of coffee and refreshments.
What about children?
Children of all ages are welcome in worship. On any given Sunday, you will see (and hear!) infants and children in the service. “Busy bags” with crafts, coloring sheets and activities are available for older children and are found in the back of the sanctuary. The nursery is available for younger children under age 3. Trained volunteers are able to watch your children, or you can stay in the nursery as they play.
During the last half of the service, children from preschool to 3rd grade are dismissed for children’s church. Children’s church meets in the fellowship hall and involves a Bible story, crafts and activities led by children’s ministry volunteers. You may walk your children downstairs to get them settled and then return for the sermon, or stay with them, as needed. Once a month, these children stay in the worship service for multi-generational worship opportunities.
What about those with special needs?
Our sanctuary is handicap accessible by parking on the shoulder of Sydenstricker Road and entering through the door facing the street. This door opens to the rear of the sanctuary. There is a handicapped accessible bathroom on this level.
For those with hearing difficulties, printed copies of the sermon are available on Sunday mornings. Please see a pastor to have a copy printed.
Our children’s ministry works well with children of various special needs.
What is the “Fairfax Covenant Church Plant?”
Led by Pastor Mike Han, Community Covenant is coming alongside a growing group of Christians interested in beginning a new church, named Table Covenant Church, in nearby Fairfax, Virginia. CCC is partnering with this group by providing support and encouragement. The group is currently meeting at the Daniels Run Peace Church in Fairfax City, near George Mason University. Visit tablecovchurch.org for more information.
