Robert Kristoffer Ericson

Nov. 23, 1991 — April 18, 2014
Bob Ericson, a senior environmental science major at the University of Mary Washington, died unexpectedly on Good Friday. His love of the outdoors began in the creeks and trails of Virginia and followed him cross-country on family camping trips. As an Eagle Scout, he led his troop on two back-country treks at Philmont Scout Ranch. Despite being diagnosed with epilepsy, Bob played varsity football at W. T. Woodson high school.  An avid rower, he participated in crew at Woodson and inspired teammates as captain of the NCAA men’s team at UMW. He developed his a cappella talent as a member of One Note Stand, which will perform in his honor on Wednesday, April 23 at UMW. Bob supported his girlfriend, Stephanie Preston, in student government and both participated in Relay for Life on campus.
Bob is survived by father Robin, mother Rebecca, brothers Jonathan (Joy), David (Sarah), and Douglas (Carolyn), grandmother Marjorie Cochrane, seven nephews, a niece, and a large extended family. A public viewing will be held Thursday, April 24 from 5-8pm at Community Covenant Church, 7018 Sydenstricker Road, Springfield, Virginia, where he was a member, with services on Friday, April 25, at 11am at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 6304 Lee Chapel Rd, Burke, Virginia. A reception will follow in Bob’s Picnic Grove at Community Covenant at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert (Bob) Ericson UMW Memorial Fund or Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE).
